ODBC (Open Data Base Connectivity)
About ODBC
ODBC is the standard database access method developed by Microsoft. The goal is to make it possible to access any data from any application, regardless of which database management system (DBMS) handles the data.

ODBC allows VIP users to extract information from the VIP system into other applications, e.g. MS Excel and MS Word. The functions and formulas available in that application can then be used to manipulate the VIP data into any format that is required. ODBC is a very powerful function that gives the VIP user endless possibilities and flexibility when creating reports.
Customised solutions are based on specific requests from users. Some examples are:
- Automation of payroll office procedures such as the generation of input sheets for various departments/branches as well as the subsequent consolidation and import of the input data into the VIP Payroll System.
- Graphic representation of data such as graphs for the management of absenteeism.
- The generation of the Remchannel Salary Survey.
- The quarterly submission of Statistics South Africa.
- Staff movements.
- Budgeting and Costing Reports.

- Increase letters can be personalised by extracting information from the VIP Payroll System.
- Extracting information into MS Excel.
- Extract and use VIP data for in-house systems.
- Extract 12 month data to determine averages and totals per employee.
- Create costing reports and department summaries.
- Manipulate the VIP data in MS Excel by using MS Excel functions such as subtotals, sorting, filtering, grouping, pivot tables, etc.
Powerful customised reports can also be created by the VIP Special Solutions Department at an additional cost.
